Jeudi en résidence with Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor

Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
Manifestation terminée

Every first Thursday of each month, from 6.30 to 7.30 pm, a writer in residence opens a window on his or her work, universe and motives, in a free form of intervention. An hour of carte blanche to share, followed by a drink.

Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor will talk in this Thursday in Residence about the sensory experience of writing a novel. She will come back to those moments where elements of a story step into view, taking assorted forms: sensations, shadows, shapes, gestures, glimpses of kingdoms, and where the space has a will and flow of its own. A space which seeps also into the “real world” when a story commands it to find and “tell itself” to its people (readers).

The Kenyan-born writer Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor obtained a Master of Philosophy and Creative Writing from the University of Queensland, Brisbane. She is the author of the well-received Dust (Knopf, 2014), in which family secrets reveal the wounds of Kenyan history, and Dragonfly Sea (Knopf, 2019). Her stories and essays have appeared in a range of literary magazines, including McSweeney’s and Granta. For her contributions to the arts, she was awarded the 2016 Head of State Commendation (Kenya). She is working on a new novel tentatively titled The Long Decay.
